Homedrive: Cannot update to Windows Feature 1709

Jonathan Haussmann -

It is a known issue that Homedrive will prevent Windows Feature update from 1607 (Anniversary Update) to 1709 (Fall Creators Update).  A legacy driver (CallbackFilter) in HomeDrive application is blocked by Microsoft. This causes the feature update to fail.  Microsoft has fixed the problem in  Windows Feature 1703 (Creators Update). But if are running Windows Feature 1607, please follow the instructions below to work around the issue.

To work around this issue:

Click the Start button and type “cmd“, then right click on Command Prompt and select ‘Run as administrator’.

Confirm that the driver is installed and running by entering the following command:

sc qc cbfltfs4 && sc queryex cbfltfs4

You should receive the following output:

Next we need to disable this driver using the following command:

sc config cbfltfs4 start= disabled

You should receive the following output:

If you get the following error, it is because the command prompt is not running as administrator or you do not have local administrator rights on the PC.

Once you have successfully disabled the driver, restart your PC

Go to Windows Update and install all the windows updates.

Once all Windows updates have been installed, you will need to enable the Homedrive applicatrion driver again.

Open command prompt as administrator again

Enable the driver using the following command:

sc config cbfltfs4 start= boot

You should receive the following output:

Start the driver using the following command:

sc start cbfltfs4

You should receive the following output:
